The Successful "Iron Dome" System

Iron Dome

The “Iron Dome” system, invented and developed by Technion graduates, has been proven to be a life-guard of the State of Israel and of its people. It is the education that the Technion offers and its highly skilled and trained students, that result in inventions with such a profound and direct impact on everyone’s life. The “Iron Dome” is a mobile all-weather air defense system that identifies and eliminates missile-threats autonomously. The success of the system can be indicated by the fact that the system has already intercepted and destroyed more than 350 missiles. The American defense-reporter Mark Thompson wrote in the TIME U.S. magazine that the “Iron Dome” is the most effective and most tested missile shield in existence.

Check here a provisory video clip for “Iron Dome”.

Message from Technion President Peretz Lavie

November 16, 2012

Dear friends, members of the Technion worldwide family,

File:Peretz Lavie - Yoav Bachar Photography.jpg

Once again, the State of Israel has been compelled to defend itself against indiscriminate and unprovoked attacks on our citizens – on children, women and men living in southern Israel. And now – in central Israel and the Jerusalem area as well.

As always, we in Israel are deeply touched and encouraged, and our fortitude and determination strengthened, by the outpouring of support and expressions of concern and solidarity from our friends around the world.

Some of our students have been called up for emergency military duty, and more will likely be called in the coming days. As always, we will provide all possible moral and material support to them while they are defending our country, and after they return to their studies and work at the Technion.

Technion’s role in defending the State of Israel is too big a story to be told here; but we all take enormous pride in the dramatic, “game-changing” success of the Iron Dome system, which has intercepted and destroyed many dozens of rockets aimed to kill and injure innocent civilians, dest- roy property, and wreak havoc on life in southern Israel. Iron Dome was developed by a team of Technion graduates, and there can be no doubt that their technological prowess and creativity, problem-solving ability, and sheer determination, are a direct product of their Technion education. You can read more about this here.

I am sure that you will all join me in hoping for a rapid and decisive end to this conflict, so that the people of southern Israel, and the entire country, can return to the normal endeavors of life.

Shabbat shalom from Haifa,
Peretz Lavie
